Polarization
Our society is growing increasingly polarized. Holding a measured, reasoned discussion feels harder by the day — especially online. Dogmatic opinions, hatred, and conspiracy theories permeate debates on everything from income tax and culture to healthcare, vaccines, and scientific research. I wanted to capture my sense of how discussions so often unfold on the internet, and the result was the ink drawing Polarization.
As reference for the drawing I used photographs of myself — one high key portrait and one low key portrait, placed face to face. It was important to me to serve as my own model, partly to challenge my discomfort with being in front of the camera, and partly because I am, of course, myself a part of society — and a part of its polarization. It is an approach I intend to continue.
